The red currant is a small, dense, multi-stemmed shrub that typically grows to a height and spread of 3 to 5 feet. It has an upright, spreading habit. Flowers in early spring, the plant produces inconspicuous, small, saucer-shaped flowers that are greenish-yellow or pinkish-red in color. These bloom on drooping clusters called racemes, which are attractive to pollinators like hummingbirds and butterflies.
