Rounded, fleshy, succulent leaves. They emerge a smoky blue-green in spring and mature to a rich mahogany or burgundy-purple, particularly in the fall. Clusters of tiny, star-shaped, dusty or rosy-pink flowers appear in dense, flattened heads (cymes) at the ends of the stems from late summer into late fall. These attract pollinators like bees and butterflies. The plant typically grows 6 to 12 inches (15 to 30 cm) tall, with flower heads extending to about 10-12 inches (25-30 cm), and spreads 12 to 18 inches (30 to 45 cm) wide.
