A herbaceous perennial with dark green, deeply cut, palmate leaves and striking, helmet-shaped, bluish-purple flowers that appear in mid-to-late summer. It grows 2 to 4 feet tall and has a rigid, upright growth habit with stiff stems, often requiring staking in shadier spots. All parts of the plant are highly poisonous and should be handled with caution, wearing gloves.
