A hardy, bushy perennial herb with square, branching stems. It has aromatic, olive-green, oval or ovate leaves arranged in opposite pairs and produces clusters of small pink, purple, or white flowers in the summer. The mature stems become woody, and the plant's habit can be spreading or creeping.
